9% Halfcastes among whom the Basters (bastards), descendants of hottentot women and of dutch settlers arrived at the Cape in the early XVIIth century. Rejected by both the white and the black communities they established themselves in Namibia where they founded Rehoboth in 1871. |
85% of Blacks mainly bantus but also khoisans (Bushmen, Namas). English is the official language but the majority of the population communicates in afrikaans. Some namibians also speak german or one of the many indigenous languages. 85% of Namibians are christians (mostly Lutherians) and 15% have traditional african beliefs. |
